In a nutshell, not much! On a chemical level, the only variation between these two cannabinoids is the placement of the double bond in the molecular structure. This double bond is on the eighth carbon atom chain in Delta 8, and on the ninth chain in Delta 9. However, there are other similarities and distinctions between these substances that go beyond the microscopic level. Both are lawful in the United States if they contain less than 0.3 percent Delta 9 THC by dry weight and are extracted from hemp. Their effects, however, are slightly different. While everyone’s experience will vary, Delta 8 tends to have milder effects than Delta 9.
